Mt Lockyer Year 6 Students Conquer Bluff Knoll in Epic Outdoor Challenge
Nearly 100 Year 6 students from Mt Lockyer Primary School in Albany recently took on the iconic Bluff Knoll hike in the Stirling Range National Park. The challenging 6.8-kilometer trek, completed on September 13, marked an important milestone in the students’ primary school journey as part of the school’s annual outdoor challenge.
Accompanied by staff members and parent volunteers, the students ascended Bluff Knoll, the highest peak in southwestern Australia, standing at 1,098 meters. They faced the demanding conditions the mountain is known for, including warm temperatures and strong winds near the summit. Despite the steep, rocky trails, every student demonstrated resilience and determination. Some groups took up to four hours to complete the hike, pushing through the physical and mental demands of the climb.
The Bluff Knoll hike is designed to build resilience, teamwork, and a sense of personal achievement in students. This annual tradition at Mt Lockyer encourages students to step outside their comfort zones and push their limits, offering a memorable experience as they prepare to transition to high school.
For the Year 6 students, the hike provided an unforgettable challenge and a fitting end to their primary school years.
