ALUMNI MORNING TEA

On Wednesday, 26 June 2024, WAPPA hosted a special Alumni Morning Tea to honour Rudy Rybarczyk and unveil the new WAPPA library and history room dedicated in his name. Rudy has been a cornerstone of WAPPA, not just during his career but well into his retirement.

From 1999 to 2002, Rudy served as WAPPA President and played a key role in merging the Deputy Principal and WAPPA into a unified voice for Primary School Principals in WA. His initiative back in 2001 paved the way for a stronger professional association.

Advocacy & Support  📣

WAPPA PROFESSIONAL COMMUNITIES

We are dedicated to fostering vibrant professional networks that enhance connectivity and leadership growth within our educational community. By joining our groups, you’ll connect with peers, share solutions to common challenges, expand your professional network, access valuable insights and resources, influence advocacy efforts, brainstorm tailored learning opportunities, and engage in thought-provoking discussions.

We've had a great response to the newly created Professional Communities, with more than 60 members joining at least one community so far.

We aim to set up the first meetings in Term 3, so make sure to sign up soon!

DRAFT REGIONAL EDUCATION STRATEGY

WAPPA welcomes the launch of the Draft Regional Education Strategy.  WAPPA has advocated for a long time now, for the development of such a strategy, given the vast size of Western Australia and the challenges faced by our regional members, within their school communities. WAPPA, along with other professional associations, has continued to raise awareness of the challenges of regional and remote education, specifically in the areas of providing support for students with complex needs and retention/attraction of staff, due to ongoing GROH concerns.

The WAPPA Board will certainly take up the offer to provide feedback into this document, and would like to think we will be consulted during the final development stages, in Semester Two. We would encourage all regional members to take the time to have a detailed look at this document and encourage you to provide feedback, as requested by the Department. If you are providing input, it may be beneficial to copy in you Chapter Chair, or even the WAPPA President, so that we have access to this, when providing our formal feedback to the Department.

To view the document, please follow this link education.wa.edu.au/regionaleducationstrategy

LEADERS' LIBRARY

We have launched our online Leaders’ Library as a way of sharing templates, documents, policies and articles etc; in a bid to connect our members, whilst potentially saving each other time and workload.

We will regularly call for submissions on a given topic, but you do not need to wait for that callout. If you have templates, policies, or checklists that you currently use and think are worth sharing, please send them to mheller@wappa.net.au

This fortnight, we are specifically calling on members to submit documents, articles, planners, checklists, policies etc in the area of
Parent and Community Relationships.

We don’t need what you submit to be ‘best practice or award winning’. We are simply trying to shine a light on what other schools are doing and hopefully allow you to find things that resonate with you, in order to follow up with email contact, maybe even a school visit, or simply using the document in your own context.

Professional Learning💡

Facilitated by: Standards and Integrity Directorate, Department of Education

WAPPA and the Standards and Integrity Directorate are proud to work together, to bring you informative and interactive half-day workshops.

This PL is essential content for all school leaders. Gain valuable insights directly from the SID team about leading cultures of integrity, setting high expectations for staff behaviour and integrating conduct into performance management. These workshops will provide critical self reflection opportunities for PPR and whole school self assessment opportunities for PSR.

Members will be able to attend in person, or online, but will need to register, using the attached links. Workshops will be three hours in length, 9.00am-12.00pm which will include morning tea. Members are encouraged to attend all workshops, given the complimentary nature of the content, across sessions.

If you are unable to attend in person and would like to join online, please register for online link by emailing Carolyn Hanham at chanham@wappa.net.au.

From the Field 🕍

Cooloongup Primary School

"At the end of Term 2, we organised a special event inviting students to bring their wheels to school for the day. They were welcome to bring bikes, skateboards, roller skates, and scooters, but electric devices were not allowed. The only requirement was that they had to wear a helmet for safety.

To ensure everyone could participate, we reached out to the community for donations of old helmets and bikes. This generous support provided us with a few spares, allowing every student the opportunity to join in on the fun."

Partnership Spotlight 🔗

WAPPA Partner, Elastik, is currently scheduling meetings with schools interested in forming partnerships for 2025. Term 3 presents an ideal opportunity to explore your interest, engage with an Elastik team member, and determine if Elastik aligns with your needs.

2024 has seen the greatest leverage of the platform’s capacity in schools, contributing responsive data use. As a result, Elastik has established partnerships with more than half of all DoE WA schools. This achievement is largely due to proactive leaders like you, who hold their staff to high standards while exploring ways to support and reduce workload where possible.
