Singleton Students Shine at Wakakirri with National Award Nomination

Singleton Primary School students took to the stage at Wakakirri recently, captivating the audience with their moving performance of “The Peacock’s Dream.” Their storytelling was so powerful that the production has now been nominated for the National Award.

“The Peacock’s Dream” tells the story of children trapped in child labour. Guided by a peacock who brings hope and light, the children rise in protest, receive the UN Declaration and celebrate a new beginning, where childhood is reclaimed and voices are finally heard.

Alongside the prestigious State Award, the school was also recognised with:

  • Storytelling Award for Blockbuster Production Style
  • Storytelling Award for Story Construction and Clarity
  • Storytelling Award for Story Theme and Concept
  • Ensemble Award for Overall Performance
  • Production Award for Sets, Props and Costumes
  • Spirit of Wakakirri Award

This remarkable achievement highlights the creativity, teamwork and passion of the Singleton Primary students. Their performance was not only a celebration of artistic expression but also a powerful reminder of the role young people can play in driving awareness and inspiring change.
