What an achievement! Bunbury Primary school was acknowledged at the 2022 Australian Education Awards in Sydney. The school won the Australian Government Primary School of the Year and received a Curriculum Excellence Award for Best Use of Technology.
In addition, the school won the overall Australian School of the Year category. Staff were part of the awards night in Sydney through Live streaming back at school. The school is proud and humbled on receiving national recognition.
Bunbury Primary School is about ‘doing the best we can’ for the students and the community. We do this by using evidence-based programmes that support the academic, social, physical and emotional development of students. Parents are brought along in partnership with other community organisations. The evidence of what we do to achieve this is embedded in our everyday practice and in the respect in which the school is held by the community. The school prioritises and provides opportunities for student/staff engagement, personal growth, health/well-being, and safety. The teaching of social skills is viewed the same way as academic skills – they are explicitly taught.
Bunbury Primary School is one of the five lead DigiTech Schools selected to support the implementation of the Education Department’s ICT Vision and Strategy 2020-2024. The school facilitates exemplary professional growth of teachers and supports schools in WA. Our use of technology plays a role in student learning, teacher assessment, targeted lesson development and backward mapping through the manipulation of data to support planning. Staff view themselves as a collaborative and collegial professional learning community. The school currently interacts with 1232 members through the Bunbury PS Digital & Design (STEM) Connect Community.
The school received numerous commendations from all over Australia, in particular the following recognises and acknowledges our schools work with local Noongar elder, Kenneth Ninyette (Djarlmarri Warngkinyv).
‘What Bunbury Primary has achieved in their Aboriginal cultural outdoor projects is educating their school community and also going beyond their community. The school is using modern technology to bring together a marriage of cultures that will outlast our past and strengthen our future nation’
