Bringing Stories to Life: Wickepin Primary School’s Community Storytime
There’s something magical about the way a good story can bring people together, and at Wickepin Primary School, that magic is coming to life through our new 0-4 Year Old Community Storytime initiative.
Launched in Week 3 of Term 1, this initiative is all about fostering early literacy, strengthening community connections, and creating a warm, welcoming space for our littlest learners. Our very first session featured the beloved classic The Gruffalo, with eager little faces lighting up as they listened to the story unfold.
Community Storytime has been scheduled across 3 Wednesdays in term 1 from 8:40 to 9:00 am where our school library transforms into a hub of storytelling, singing, movement games, and nursery rhymes, led by our Principal. It’s not just about reading—it’s about immersing children in language, rhythm, and play, giving them a strong foundation before they step into formal schooling.
To further support families, the Community Resource Centre has generously provided early years packs, filled with local information, a picture book, and details of external support agencies. These resources help families feel connected and supported as they navigate the early years of their child’s learning journey.
Looking ahead to Term 2, we hope to expand this program to weekly sessions, inviting community members and school staff to take part in running these engaging mornings. By working together, we can continue to build a love of reading and learning that lasts a lifetime.
We can’t wait to see this initiative grow and look forward to welcoming more families into our story time community!
